This week, I decided to focus on one adventure, and I hope that some of you will be able to attend. Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival happens twice a year, and the spring festival will be held April 16-19. More than 60 bands will be performing. In addition to the great music, you’ll find craft vendors, dance workshops, a sustainability fair, and more. The price is not bad for 4 days of music and camping, but it’s a little high on an AmeriCorps stipend. Luckily, you can volunteer in exchange for admission. Each three hour volunteer shift=1 free day of admission. Mentioning that you’re doing a year of service for AmeriCorps would probably increase your chances of being selected as a volunteer, as financial need is taken into consideration. I’ve been to the festival twice, and I loved it! If you’re looking to get out of the city for a little camping, food, music, and good company, Shakori Hills is the place to be.
Location: 1439 Henderson Tanyard Road, Pittsboro, NC 27312
It takes about 45 minutes to get there from Raleigh. The festival’s website lists ride share resources.
